Licensed Post Office Group's Executive Director Angela Cramp says post office licensees are horrified and “soul destroyed to lose the best CEO Australia Post has had”.
A group of 3,000 AusPost licensees, are threatening to strike for one day, in support of the processes at AusPost, and its CEO Christine Holgate.
Investigation into the Cartier watch scandal will include scrutiny on a bill for $34,000 claimed by the CEO, for her nine-month stay at a luxury Melbourne hotel.
Holgate lived in a Grand Hyatt Suite, while she worked at the company's head office, between October 2017 and July 2018.
Post office licensees across the country are threatening to close thousands of outlets, and are each set to mail Prime Minister Scott Morrison, a $5 note, to show their support for the embattled CEO.
“I’ve been a licensee for 20 years; I know the difference,” Ms Cramp told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“Australia Post is an independent businesses enterprise, totally separate from, legally and financially, from the federal government. It’s responsible for its own day to day operations.
Ms Cramp argued the gift of the Cartier watches was a small bonus for Executives who had brokered a deal with banks which increased “the revenue to Australia post by $100 million”.
She confirmed post offices around Australia were sending Prime Minister Scott Morrison $5 notes to in the mail to compensate for the money spent on the Cartier watches but said the one day strike, originally set for Wednesday, was put on pause and would occur at a later date.
